My dog doesn't like to socialize with other dogs. She'll acknowledge other dogs but isn't interested in playing or communicating with them. She's not aggressive but she rather just be with me all the time.
She whines when she sees other dogs on their leash and it seems like she wants to sniff/acknowledge them.
The same thing with humans as well. She has a select few she will play with and cuddle but other people she'll ignore.
So I'm not sure if it's her personality type or if there's something I can or can't do.
If you are truly concerned about her lack of interest in dogs, you could try playing games such as ball, disc, or agility with other well behaved pets, and teach her how much fun other dogs can be! I wouldn't however recommend a dog park unless you know the other dogs there already, as play time can quickly become out of control with many new strange dogs.
Hey there Christina, I'm so glad you asked! Some dogs may simply have the personality type to be anti social, while not showing signs of any aggression. I wouldn't worry too much unless it becomes a problematic behavior later down the line. If she isn't being reactive towards your other pets or strange dogs, then she might just be content with understanding the meaning of stranger danger. If you have any further details, questions, or concerns, please contact me! :)
